Vertical jumping is necessary in many sports. You need to attain a good height to block or make a shot in basketball. It will not hurt to be able to jump high when playing baseball, trying to catch those high balls. A receiver in football should be able to reach a good height via a good strong jump.
Make sure you are at your proper weight. It will not help to be trying to jump higher while carrying around “excess baggage.” This brings to mind a proper diet. You need energy which means a surplus of vitamins and minerals to allow the body to reach its fullest potential in the area of a vertical jump. Eat nutritious foods and take the proper supplements every day. Make sure you are taking the powdered form so the body will absorb them.
When beginning your regimen of practicing in reaching heights, first limber up your muscles. A good first exercise after a warm-up is running to the basket with a basketball and attempting a dunk. You probably will not do it but get as high as you can in the process. Like with any exercises keep careful records. You are not going to remember. Get a book and keep detailed notes of your progress.
You should watch sports or obtain videos of sports where vertical jumping is involved. Watch them until you have the mechanics memorized and then watch them again. Work with someone who is experienced in a sport requiring vertical jumps. You will get some pointers and if the person can work out with you, all the better.
You do not have to go to the gym or purchase expensive equipment to strengthen the parts of your body involved, the arms and legs. You can do push-ups, chin-ups and sit-ups all in the comfort of your home. Strengthen your legs by running with weights attached. Try jumping over hedges.
Keep up the routine. Take a day off here and there to rejuvenate your body but do not neglect the workouts. It will depend upon the individual what type of results are attained.
